Scott Kublin and Cali Lewis review Hyperlapse

Earlier this week, Instagram launched a brand new IOS app outside of Instagram itself. It’s called Hyperlapse and it helps you create videos using your iPhone camera that look like time-lapse videos. And because of some clever internal algorithms, the footage plays back with incredible motion stabilization.

Using the app is very simple. You just launch the app and click on a small circle indicator to begin recording your video and press the circle again to stop it. You then see your recorded video playback at a default speed of 6x. Based on how that speed looks, you can either slow it down or speed it up. Once you decide the speed you’d like and commit to it, the file is encoded and placed into your iPhone’s image album. But be sure you’re happy with the chosen speed because as of this post, you can’t go back and change it.

As I was getting ready to take photos of Cali yesterday, I decided to use Hyperlapse to film Cali putting on her makeup and the first few minutes of our shoot. (I know everyone enjoys our behind-the-scenes videos, so I was looking out for you.) 🙂

You can download Hyperlapse for free at the IOS App Store. (Instagram hopes to release an Android version soon.)
